Another Record Store Day has come and gone and although there are still festivities including live performances at Euclid Records today, I decided it was better to get back to real life. You know - spend time with family, cut the grass, clean the house, etc. (sigh)
Yesterday, however, we were able to get to Euclid Records, Vintage Vinyl and Apop Records to buy records, talk about bands, visit with old and new friends, and spend quality time with friends who have bonded throughout the years over music. We listened to live music, drank free beer, ate a great mexican lunch and spent way too much money on records.
I wanted to take this opportunity to give a big THANKS to my fellow 3 Minute Record contributors Bart Darnell and Jeff Fields as well as our good friends Tom Graff and Scott Kuhlman for a great Record Store Day. I'm already looking forward to planning out our trip next year and making it even better!
Here's what I was able to grab (and afford)...
Record Store Day Exclusives
The db's - Picture Sleeve b/w Write Back [7"]
The Decemberists - Live At Bull Moose [CD]
Bob Dylan - In Concert: Brandeis University 1963 [LP]
Justin Townes Earle - Move Over Mama b/w Racing In The Street [7"]
Steve Earle - I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive b/w This City [7"]
John Fahey - Requia and other compositions for guitar solo [LP]
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Gotta Get That Feeling b/w Racing In The Street ('78) [10"]
Superchunk/Coliseum - Horror Business b/w Bullet [Split 7']
Television - Live At The Old Waldorf, San Francisco, 6/29/78 [2 LP]
Various Artists - Follow Me Down: Vanguard's Lost Psychedelic Era (1966-1970) [2 LP]
My most exciting purchase was finding a copy of the Television - Live At The Old Waldorf album on vinyl, a release limited to 3,000 copies. This live show from 1978 had originally been issued by Rhino a few years ago in a limited CD release. I had missed the release and bought the album digitally, but I'm so much happier that I have a physical copy of the album.
I will have a full rundown of our day in the next post. Stay tuned!
