Episode 15 of the podcast is now live and features the amazingly talented John Paul Keith. JP was in town back in July and sat down with us at Off Broadway to record this episode. For those of you not familiar with JP's music, you are truly missing out on a great songwriter and guitar player. JP is based out of Memphis, TN and can usually be found playing with his band, The One Four Fives. You can also hear JP in Motel Mirrors, which also features past podcast guest Amy LaVere. His latest record, Memphis Circa 3 AM, is available on Big Legal Mess Records.
We had a great time talking with JP about Memphis, the Stagger Inn, recording with Roland Janes, what it is like making a living as a touring musician, and how he ended up meeting Charlie Sexton, among other topics. JP also plays two of his songs, "The Man That Time Forgot" and "If You Catch Me Staring", and covers the classic, "Home In My Hand."
Those of us lucky enough to be in the St. Louis area have two chances to see John Paul Keith and the One Four Fives coming up here real soon. On Friday, October 17, 2014, JPK and the band will be opening up for Deke Dickerson and Los Straitjackets at Off Broadway in St. Louis. Doors for that show are at 7PM, admission is $15, and the show is all ages. The very next night, Saturday, October 18, 2014, JPK and the band takeover the always fun Stagger Inn... Again in Edwardsville, IL. That show kicks off at 10PM with Riley James opening and is 21 and up.
