88.1 KDHX benefit takes you to Higher Ground [Preview]
For Higher Ground: A Tribute to Stevie Wonder and a benefit for KDHX, again, Roy Kasten has assembled a lineup of supremely talented St. Louis based musicians to honor the music of one of most important artists of the last 50 years. As a music writer and host of Feel Like Going Home on 88.1 KDHX, Kasten employs his deep love for music and vast knowledge of the local scene to bring together a group of musicians who love the music they're playing and want to donate their time to a great cause.
Slotted as an informal kickoff to the 88.1 KDHX fall pledge drive, this is a great way to give back to a radio station who gives so much to the St. Louis community. For this all-ages event, a reasonable ticket price of $10 ($13 if you're under 21) gets you in the door and all proceeds go to support programs at the radio station. Limited editions of the eye-popping poster art created specifically for this singular event by Sleepy Kitty Arts (pictured above) will be available for purchase as another fundraiser.
Stevland Hardaway Morris, known to the world as Stevie Wonder, needs no introduction. His career spans five decades of indispensable hits, bold experiments and joyful transformations of the pop landscape. A multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, he is, with all due respect to Ray Charles, the very definition of the genius of soul. - Event press release
The night will feature 11 artists volunteering their time and energy to perform the songs of Stevie Wonder. From rhythm & blues to soul and gospel to funk, Wonder's catalog provides a dearth of material for the artists to choose appropriate cuts for their sound and ability.
