Robyn Hitchcock Announces U.S. Dates
Robyn Hitchcock has just announced he plans to play some limited dates in the U.S. next month. Unfortunately, the close as he's going to get to St. Louis is Chicago, but it if you're a fan it may be worth the 4 to 5 hour drive as it's a Saturday!
Hitchcock is teaming up with longtime producer Joe Boyd for an interesting retrospective of his work and the influence that it gave Hitchcock as a teenager growing up in England. In 2006, Boyd published a memoir, White Bicycles: Making Music In The 60's, about his early period producing Pink Floyd, the Incredible String Band, Fairport Convention, Nick Drake and Vashti Bunyan. Boyd had a resurgence in the 1980's producing Richard Thompson, R.E.M., 10,000 Maniacs, and Billy Bragg.
Hitchcock describes the show's format this way:
In this show, Joe tells excerpts of his story, largely reading from 'White Bicycles': I sing the songs he worked on or was involved with, the songs I grew up with - I also ask him questions and interrupt, like a kid that wants to be part of the story. The story is a big part of me.
